Don’t Focus on Competition

In small business, competitive practices easily arise. The first thing we normally hear when discussing a marketing plan with a new client is everything their so-called “competition” is doing. This is something that business owners easily become consumed with because they want to outdo the other people in their industry. By focusing on what others are doing in the market, it restricts the ability of uniquely marketing your business. How, you ask? Well, if you are making decisions on how to market based on results you’ve seen from what others are doing, this immediately boxes you in creatively.

Here are a few tips on how to create original “uncompetitive” content.

  1. Identify and showcase the business’s culture.

  2. Collaborate with clients and other fellow businesses.

  3. Connect personally with your primary demographic.

  4. Do everything else your “competition” isn’t doing!
